Earlier this year, the US Department of Justice <a hreflang="en" href="https://www.ada.gov/resources/2024-03-08-web-rule/">updated its regulations for Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)</a>. US state and local governments will now all be required to be fully WCAG 2.1 AA compliant. The compliance date depends on the size of their population but will be either April 2026 or April 2027. It will be important to measure how US states comply with this new regulation. We should see improvements in these numbers.
