Not viewing latest documentation version banner #6263

Description

What would you like to be added:

A banner showing I am not reading and viewing the documentation of the latest version (https://squidfunk.github.io/mkdocs-material/setup/setting-up-versioning/#version-warning).

Why is this needed:

When searching for "external dns" on Google I get the result of the documentation for v0.15.0 for some reason

After going on the website there is no banner, although the session storage does mark it as outdated.

So I viewed an outdated version of the documentation without really realizing it instantly, only after an installation failed.

I tried to get it to work but for some reason the override doesn't really work or it gets ignored? Maybe some MkDocs/Material for MkDocs/mike bug?

Tested on Zen, Google Chrome & Safari, as some previous issues mentioned Firefox having issues, none showed a banner.
