The Test Framework saves assets at the start of a PlayMode run, after the options were switched, so restoring them only in memory left m_EnterPlayModeOptionsEnabled: 1 on disk. Patch the two keys back when they still hold the temporary values. SaveAssets() isn't used because it would also write the test runner's temporary runInBackground.

- Line 101: Update RevertSettingsFile to avoid truncating EditorSettings.asset
during restoration or recovery: write the revised contents to a temporary file
in the same directory, then use File.Replace to atomically replace the original.
Clean up the temporary file afterward, while preserving the existing
recovery-state behavior.
- Around line 104-107: Update PlayModeOptionsGuard.RevertSettingsFile to report
success: treat missing files and already-restored settings as success, and
return failure for other read or write errors instead of relying on File.Exists.
Update both callers to clear SessionState and delete the marker only when
restoration succeeds, preserving recovery state for a later retry after failure.

Description
PlayMode runs through
run_teststurn on Enter Play Mode Options with domain reload disabled, then restore the original values when the run ends, but only in memory. The Test Framework callsAssetDatabase.SaveAssets()early in the run (CreateBootstrapSceneTask), after the options were switched, so the temporary values are written toProjectSettings/EditorSettings.assetand stay there. In my project (2022.3.62f3, v10.3.0) every MCP PlayMode run leftm_EnterPlayModeOptionsEnabled: 1in the git diff. This is the "additional side effect" mentioned in #1322.This patches the two keys in
EditorSettings.assetback to their original values if they still hold the temporary ones. It runs after a normal run and whenPlayModeOptionsGuardrecovers an interrupted one.I didn't use
AssetDatabase.SaveAssets()for the restore. It runs afterRunFinished, which comes before the Test Framework resets theApplication.runInBackground = trueit sets inPreparePlayModeRunTask. Saving at that point writesrunInBackground: 1intoProjectSettings.asset.SaveAssetIfDirtyandForceReserializeAssetsdon't write project settings files, andInternalEditorUtility.SaveToSerializedFileAndForgetrejects persistent objects.Type of Change
Changes Made
MCPForUnity/Editor/Services/TestRunnerService.cs:PlayModeOptionsGuard.RevertSettingsFilerewritesm_EnterPlayModeOptionsEnabledandm_EnterPlayModeOptionswhen they still hold the temporary values. It is called fromRestoreEnterPlayModeOptionsandPlayModeOptionsGuard.Restore.TestProjects/UnityMCPTests/Assets/Tests/EditMode/Services/PlayModeOptionsGuardSettingsFileTests.cs: four cases for the rewrite. A fifth sets the temporary values, callsSaveAssets()the wayCreateBootstrapSceneTaskdoes, then callsRestore()and checks the file.Compatibility / Package Source

MCPForUnityTests.Editor.Serviceson 2022.3.62f3 in batch mode: 271 passed, 3 skipped, 0 failed. The skipped ones are the stdio bridge tests, which skip themselves when the bridge isn't running. With the call inRestore()removed, the last new test fails because the file still hasm_EnterPlayModeOptionsEnabled: 1.tools/compile-check.shpasses for 2022.3.62f3 (win).I also ran the same sequence in a scratch 2022.3 project. The patched file was byte-identical to what
SaveAssets()writes for the restored values, andrunInBackgroundstayed 0 on disk. Not run: Python tests (no server changes), PlayMode tests, other Unity versions.

Additional Notes
If project settings are serialized as binary, the patterns don't match and nothing is written, same as before.
