Summary

The local web dashboard currently focuses on cost and token volume. This change adds workload-oriented signals so users can see how sessions are shaped, how much time was actually spent, and what the agent did while working.

The dashboard remains local-only and uses the existing analyzer output. No data is uploaded and no new configuration is required.

Changes

  • Add replies as a first-class metric across the overview, trend chart, rankings, session sorting, filters, and CSV export.
  • Distinguish session duration from active time. Active time counts gaps under five minutes between messages, so idle time does not inflate the result.
  • Add a session summary with total active time, replies, cost and tokens per reply, cache share, and project count.
  • Add a session-shape card that groups filtered sessions by replies, active time, or tool calls, with median and p90 values.
  • Add a work-activity card and breakdown columns for recorded tool calls, file reads, file edits, file additions, and shell commands.
  • Parse Codex function_call and custom_tool_call records, deduplicate them by call_id, and map common tool names to activity counters.
  • Support Codex sessions stored as *.jsonl.zst, including compressed archived sessions, truncated compressed tails, and deduplication against uncompressed copies.
  • Allow long model names to wrap in session rows, detail panels, rankings, chart tooltips, and filter labels instead of being truncated.
  • Preserve compatibility with existing cached snapshots by defaulting newly added activity fields to zero.
  • Update dashboard documentation and add Rust and frontend aggregation coverage.

Verification

  • cargo fmt --check
  • cargo clippy --locked --all-targets -- -D warnings
  • cargo test --locked - 506 tests passed
  • node --test src/web/data.test.mjs - 15 tests passed
  • ./scripts/license-checks.sh
  • cargo audit - passed with the repository's existing allowed advisories

Local verification was performed on macOS. The Windows CI matrix has not been run locally.

Notes

  • Active time is derived from timestamp gaps and is intended as a workload estimate, not an exact timer.
  • File and command counts are recorded tool operations, not unique files. Coverage depends on the source analyzer.
  • This is a dashboard and analyzer enhancement with no migration or breaking configuration changes. Changes can be rolled back by reverting this branch.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added replies as a selectable metric for rankings, trends, and breakdowns.
    • Expanded session insights with active-time and work-activity metrics, summary statistics, and distributions by message count, duration, or tool calls.
    • Added breakdowns for tool calls, file reads, file edits, and shell commands.
    • Added support for compressed Codex session files, including recovery of complete messages from truncated files.
    • Added configured model aliases to dashboard names and grouping, while preserving original names in session details.
  • Improvements
    • Session views now support sorting by replies and active time, with clearer activity details.
    • Updated dashboard layouts and charts for improved readability across screen sizes.

Codex compresses closed rollout files in place to .jsonl.zst. Discover, watch, and decode both formats with zstd so historical sessions remain available without rewriting local data.

Keep session identity stable across compression and preserve complete messages when a compressed tail is truncated.

Expose model replies as a first-class metric across KPIs, trends, sessions, breakdowns, and CSV exports. Add a session shape card for reply count, duration, and tool calls with median and p90 values.

Show per-model cache share in session details while keeping all analysis local and limited to fields recorded in the source data.

Track active session time, replies, and normalized tool activity across the web dashboard. Parse Codex function and custom tool calls, expose activity columns in breakdowns and CSV, and keep model names readable across tables and detail views.

📝 Walkthrough

The Codex analyzer now accepts compressed session files and records categorized tool activity. Web aggregation calculates active time and activity totals. The dashboard adds reply-based metrics, session summaries and distributions, and expanded activity breakdowns.

Changes: Activity Dashboard

Layer / File(s) Summary
Codex session parsing and tool statistics
src/analyzers/codex_cli.rs, src/analyzers/tests/codex_cli.rs
Codex discovery and parsing accept .jsonl.zst files. Tool calls are deduplicated and categorized. Tests cover compressed sessions, path identity, truncated streams, and activity counts.
Session activity and alias data
src/web.rs, src/web/data.mjs, src/web/data.test.mjs, src/main.rs
Web session data calculates active minutes and aggregates file and terminal-command counts. Usage responses include configured model aliases. Data helpers add request metrics, activity totals, percentiles, and session-shape helpers, with related tests.
Dashboard metrics and session views
src/web/app.js, src/web/locales.mjs, src/web/style.css, README.md
The dashboard adds request metrics, session summaries and distributions, activity details, and expanded breakdowns. URL state, translations, responsive styles, and documentation reflect these metrics and views.

🟡 Minor · Return the uncompressed path when the archived date cannot be parsed. · codex_cli.rs:125

src/analyzers/codex_cli.rs:125
🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Return the uncompressed path when the archived date cannot be parsed.

For a compressed session, Line 107 to Line 118 return uncompressed_path, which removes the .zst suffix. The fallback on Line 125 still returns file_path. Consider an archived *.jsonl.zst file under archived_sessions whose name has no parseable rollout-YYYY-MM-DD prefix. That file keeps its .zst path as its identity, so its conversation_hash and global_hash change when Codex compresses it. This defeats the stated goal on Line 105 and Line 106.

🐛 Proposed fix
     else {
-        return file_path.to_path_buf();
+        return uncompressed_path;

@jimyag Thanks for clarifying the repository policy. The docstring coverage warning does not need to block this PR. Adding JSDoc solely to meet a coverage threshold is unnecessary here.

Thanks for fixing the search-scoped session totals and compressed archived-path fallback locally. Both findings remain pending until the next PR update includes those fixes.

Use totals from the metadata-backed sessions that match the current search, so the summary and work activity cards agree with the session-shape card and visible list.

Drop the compression suffix even when an archived session has no parseable date prefix, so compression does not change its conversation and message hashes. Add a regression test for the fallback path.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Flush pending Codex activity into the final usage record.

A tool call after the final usable token_count is accumulated but never emitted. The web dashboard aggregates activity only from emitted assistant messages, so it omits those calls.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Retain rows that contain recorded activity.

The filter checks only token and cost fields. Codex accepts zero-valued token usage and assigns activity counters independently. An activity-only row can therefore be discarded.

Include the activity counters in the retention condition.
