Two fixes, one commit each, plus one follow-up.

The no-link check for the unannounced subprocessor page (scripts/subprocessor-page.test.mjs):

  • An unrelated href with an unknown character reference (&campaign;) is kept as written instead of throwing.
  • The resolved pathname is percent-decoded before the compare, so /sub%70rocessors counts as a link. A malformed escape is treated as no match.
  • Each case is red on main and green here.

Header removal lines in _headers (scripts/lib/headers-file.mjs, scripts/surface-check.mjs):

  • A ! Name line (Cloudflare's detach form) used to match nothing and was skipped. It is now parsed into the rule's removes.
  • The floor check fails when a rule removes any header the floor requires: the Content-Security-Policy, Referrer-Policy, Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy, Cross-Origin-Resource-Policy and Permissions-Policy, in any letter case.
  • scripts/headers-file.test.mjs is new and joins the surface job, and a table test in scripts/page-claims.test.mjs covers each floor header.
  • The real web/_headers has no removal line and still passes.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Site checks now flag rules that remove required security headers, including case-insensitive header names.
    • Subprocessor page link checks now handle encoded URLs and HTML character references more reliably, and treat malformed URL escapes as non-matches.
  • Tests
    • Added coverage for security-header removal checks and link validation.

…e path before comparing

A named reference the decoder does not know is kept as written, so an unrelated href with one no longer fails the check. The path is percent-decoded before it is compared, and a malformed escape is not a match.

…ng a floor header fails the check

A line of the form "! Name" under a rule detaches Name from that rule. The parser keeps it in the rule's removes, never among its headers, so every caller that reads headers or pattern keeps its result. The floor check fails with one line naming the file, the line and the header when a rule removes the Content-Security-Policy.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Haiku 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…not only the CSP

The detach check takes one list of the header floor's names: the Content-Security-Policy, Referrer-Policy, Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy, Cross-Origin-Resource-Policy and Permissions-Policy. A detach line for any of them, in any letter case, fails with one line naming the file, the line, the header and the rule's pattern. Strict-Transport-Security and X-Content-Type-Options stay off the list, since the Cloudflare zone sets them.

Walkthrough

The parser now records header detach directives separately. Rule 13 reports detach directives for required headers. Link matching decodes href character references and URL path escapes before comparison.

Changes: Header removal checks

Layer / File(s) Summary
Parse header detach directives
scripts/lib/headers-file.mjs, scripts/headers-file.test.mjs, .github/workflows/ci.yml
The parser records detach directives separately from headers. Tests cover rules with and without removals, and the surface CI job runs the parser tests.
Report required header removals
scripts/surface-check.mjs, scripts/page-claims.test.mjs
Rule 13 reports detach directives for five required headers using case-insensitive matching. Tests check each header.

Href matching

Layer / File(s) Summary
Decode href values before comparison
scripts/subprocessor-page.test.mjs
Href parsing preserves unknown named references. Path comparison decodes percent escapes and treats malformed escapes as non-matches. Tests cover these cases.

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Merge Risk: Low · up to 0efff

The new header-removal test runs Git with the runner’s HOME and TEMP. The change is mergeable with a bounded test-isolation follow-up.

Pass the sandbox environment to git ls-files.

The new floor-header test reaches this existing child-process call. Because the call omits env, it inherits the runner's HOME and TEMP, which violates the test sandbox requirement. Pass the existing env value.

Test a non-lowercase header name through surface-check.

At scripts/page-claims.test.mjs:580, use header instead of header.toLowerCase(), or add a separate uppercase probe. This makes the test fail if Rule 13 loses its case-insensitive matching.

Disposition, from the maintainers: right, DEFERRED, thread left open. The table probes lower case only, so it shows the comparison does not depend on the file's case but would not catch the check losing its case-folding; a mixed-case probe will be added beside the lower-case one.

Assert that the unknown reference is preserved.

The current linksTo assertion checks only that the external URL is not a target link. It can still pass if decodeHref removes or changes &campaign;. Add a direct hrefsIn assertion.

Disposition, from the maintainers: right, DEFERRED, thread left open. The case shows the external link is not reported but not that the unknown reference survives as written; a direct assertion on the decoded href will be added. The outside-diff point on this review (git ls-files at page-claims.test.mjs line 28 runs without the sandbox env) is right too and is deferred with these two.
