What ships

  • Clerk sign-in restored on javachat.ai and dev.javachat.ai. Since 2026-10-02 the VITE_CLERK_PUBLISHABLE_KEY GitHub environment variables held unresolved Dokploy vault references, so every CI-built bundle inlined the reference string and Clerk failed to load. The variables now hold the real publishable keys, and vite build fails on any value that is not a pk_test_ or pk_live_ key (53bcbf3).
  • Hermetic frontend tests. The Docker frontend stage no longer leaks the deploy's Clerk key into Vitest, which had started a live Clerk.load() in jsdom and failed the arm64 image build (0e7ee61).
  • npm advisories cleared. 22 Dependabot alerts in frontend/package-lock.json (3 critical) resolved within current majors; unused lint-staged removed; npm audit reports 0 vulnerabilities (9551224).
  • Worktree cleanup. .worktree-regenerable declares the Vite build output (0a8abfd).

Verification

  • dev.javachat.ai serves 0a8abfd; its bundle carries a pk_test_ key and no vault reference.
  • Multi-turn chat and guided-lesson streams answer on dev (6 of 6, no error frames).
  • Pre-push build-and-test and lint passed on each commit; dev Build & Test passed and deployed.

The development and production GitHub environment variables held unresolved
Dokploy vault references (${{vault.infisical-javachat-*.VITE_CLERK_PUBLISHABLE_KEY}})
since 2026-10-02. Actions does not resolve that syntax, so every CI-built bundle
inlined the literal string and Clerk failed to load on dev.javachat.ai and
javachat.ai, hiding sign-in while the build stayed green.

The variables now hold the real publishable keys. The Vite config now fails the
build when VITE_CLERK_PUBLISHABLE_KEY is set to anything other than a
pk_test_/pk_live_ key, so the same misconfiguration cannot ship silently again.

npm audit reported 22 Dependabot alerts in frontend/package-lock.json, three of
them critical (tinypool, shell-quote). Upgrading within current majors clears
them: Clerk's patch releases drop the vulnerable Solana/Metro tree (shell-quote,
image-size, stream-json), Vitest moves to 4.1.12, and devalue, postcss,
dompurify, source-map-js, brace-expansion, and @humanfs/node take patched
versions. oxfmt pins tinypool 2.0.0, so a scoped override lifts it to 2.1.2.

lint-staged had no caller (lefthook runs the formatters directly) and was the
only path to the unpatched braces and micromatch advisories, so it is removed
with its config block. @types/node is declared directly because type checking
had relied on the removed Clerk subtree to supply it. npm audit now reports 0
vulnerabilities.

The Docker frontend stage runs npm test with VITE_CLERK_PUBLISHABLE_KEY set
from the build arg. Once that arg held a real key, App.test.ts started a live
Clerk.load() against the Clerk Frontend API, and clerk-js wrote to storage after
jsdom tore down, failing the arm64 image build with "window is not defined".
Pinning the variable to empty in the Vitest config makes every run hermetic;
tests that exercise Clerk already stub the key they need.

Agent-Session: 910a9530-dda7-49a3-bc67-2697791fcd28
A frontend build in a task worktree writes its ignored output into
src/main/resources/static, and worktree cleanup keeps any undeclared ignored
path, so every landed worktree that ran a build was left behind.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Builds now report an error when a non-empty Clerk publishable key has an invalid format, making configuration issues easier to identify.
    • The test environment now uses an empty Clerk publishable key by default; tests that require a key can provide a stub value.

The frontend configuration now validates nonempty Clerk publishable keys during Vite configuration resolution. Vitest sets the key to an empty string. The changes also update frontend package tooling and list generated Vite output paths for regeneration.

Changes: Clerk key validation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Clerk key validation and test configuration
frontend/vite.config.ts, frontend/src/lib/composables/clerkAuthentication.svelte.ts, frontend/vitest.config.ts
Vite rejects nonempty key values that do not match the Clerk publishable-key pattern. Comments describe the build-time key behavior. Vitest sets the key to an empty string.

Frontend build tooling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Build outputs and package tooling
.worktree-regenerable, frontend/package.json
The regeneration list includes the Vite-generated HTML, assets, and theme boot script. Package configuration updates Vitest dependencies, adds a tinypool override, adds @types/node, and removes lint-staged.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Reject keys with invalid decoded content.

If a configured key is pk_test_YWJj, this pattern accepts it. Its decoded value is abc, not a Frontend API host followed by Clerk’s required $ delimiter. The build therefore succeeds with a malformed key, and deployed sign-in can still fail. Validate the decoded host and delimiter as well as the prefix and base64 characters. (clerk.com)
