[Docs][Python] PyCapsule protocol implementation status #47696
We have a part in the Python docs that adds a bit more explanation about the PyCapsule protocol (see python/extending_types). We could also add a status of the implementations in a form of a table from the issue here: #39195 (comment)
Hi @AlenkaF
I would like to work on this issue.
I plan to extract the PyCapsule implementation details from issue #39195 and add a status table to the extending types documentation.
Please let me know if this approach sounds good.
@Bhupendra-glitch are you still planning to work on this issue? Sorry I haven't responded yet, it slipped under my radar. The suggested approach sounds good.
In case the planes changed, @rahulmansharamani14 could give it a shot (I do not see any open PRs already linked to this issue).
I would like to take this on. I will extract the PyCapsule implementation matrix from #39195 and add the implementation status table to the Python extending types documentation (docs/source/python/extending_types.rst).
Hi @sundeep8967, the extraction of the matrix is only one part of the work needed here. The other is to check in each of the implementations if anything changed and if there is any new project implementing the protocol. It would be super nice to see this being done but it needs a bit more human effort to do the checking, see #49550 (comment).
Happy to review a PR if you have the bandwidth for the above.
Thank you for the guidance! I went through all 33 libraries tracked across #39195, audited their current implementation status against their respective upstream repositories/PRs, updated statuses that have changed (e.g. Daft, Vortex, Xarray, Streamlit, PySpark), included community additions (such as jupyter-scatter, pyfru, minarrow, and streamlit), and linked directly to documentation / merged PRs where available.

Hi @kylebarron @jorisvandenbossche , is someone working on it? If not, If not, I'd be happy to submit the fix!

Hi @AlenkaF
I'd like to work on this issue.
My understanding: Add a table to the Python docs showing PyCapsule protocol implementation status across libraries, based on the tracking in #39195.
I'll review the existing docs and implementation status, then submit a PR within a week. Please let me know if there are any specific requirements!
Thanks!

Hi @AlenkaF, is this issue still valid? If so, I can work on it and submit a fix within two days.
AlenkaF commentedon Mar 18, 2026
@Desel72 I still see no linked PR so go ahead 👍

@AlenkaF can I work on other sub-issues in #46601?

Yes, please!

Since #49550 is closed, I'm unassigning the current assignee so that anyone interested can pick it up. :)
