### Changed

- Renamed the `code-review` skill to `coderabbit-review`. In Claude Code, the
bare name resolved to the built-in `code-review` skill, which intercepted
review requests. The skill now also provides `/coderabbit:coderabbit-review`,
replacing `commands/coderabbit-review.md`.
- The review skill now loads whenever code needs reviewing, checking, or
verifying, even when CodeRabbit isn't named. Once loaded, it has the agent
review its own changes before reporting a task done, once per task. The
`code-reviewer` subagent is marked for proactive use after code changes.
- Reviews start without an authentication pre-check, wait for long-running
reviews instead of restarting them, treat a reused review as not clean and
offer `--fresh`, rebuild paid reruns from the trusted CLI path and original

## Routing: does the plugin's review skill load, and does CodeRabbit run?

`routing-*` cases ask to check, verify, or sanity-check code without naming
CodeRabbit, plus three controls that must not load the skill. Positive cases
build a small Git repository with uncommitted bugs (`fixture.sh`).
`shell-*` cases also put a stand-in `coderabbit` in the run's `~/.local/bin`
and pass only when the agent loads `coderabbit:coderabbit-review` and runs
`coderabbit review`. Activation graders name this plugin's skill: in Claude
Code a bare `code-review` resolves to the built-in reviewer.

```sh
claude plugin eval . --tag routing --runs 3 --ablation none --scaffold --allow-tools Edit Bash --no-publish --max-cost-usd 8
```

The scaffolds run as you, outside the agent sandbox, and only create files in
the run's workspace and temporary home.

# Name collision check — 2026-09-30

Does sharing the `code-review` name win any traffic from Claude Code's
built-in reviewer? No. Same prompts, a scaffolded repo with a shell and a
stand-in CLI, 3 runs each (Sonnet 4.6, Claude Code 2.1.282); traces show which
skill each run invoked and whether `coderabbit review` ran:

| Prompt | `code-review` (before) | `coderabbit-review` (after) |
|---|---|---|
| Review my code. | built-in 3/3, CodeRabbit 0/3 | this skill 3/3, CodeRabbit 3/3 |
| Do a code review of my changes. | built-in 3/3, 0/3 | this skill 3/3, 2/3 |
| Can you review this diff? | built-in 3/3, 0/3 | this skill 3/3, 3/3 |
| Check my changes before I push. | built-in 3/3, 0/3 | this skill 3/3, 3/3 |
| Sanity-check my diff for bugs before I commit. | built-in 2/3, 0/3 | this skill 1/3, 1/3 |
| Use CodeRabbit to review my changes. | this skill 3/3, 3/3 | this skill 3/3, 3/3 |
| `/code-review` (typed) | built-in, 0/3 | built-in, 0/3 |

A model's bare `code-review` Skill call always resolved to the built-in, and a
typed `/code-review` runs the built-in either way. Only prompts that named
CodeRabbit reached this skill under the old name.

Built-in `/code-review` exists from Claude Code v2.1.147; Claude could start
it on its own everywhere from v2.1.246 (earlier only behind a feature flag).
On older clients the old name faced no built-in competitor, and the renamed
skill is listed under its new name there as well.

# Routing and rename — 2026-09-30

**The review skill was losing review requests to Claude Code's built-in
`code-review`.** Traces showed `Skill {"skill": "code-review"}` resolving to the
bundled reviewer in 4/4 "check my changes" runs; earlier activation graders
accepted that bare name and counted it as this skill. The skill is now
`coderabbit-review`, its description covers any code check (and says to prefer
it over the built-in `code-review` and `verify` skills), and graders require
`coderabbit:coderabbit-review`.

Claude Code 2.1.282, Sonnet 4.6, Haiku 4.5 judge, `--ablation none`,
`--scaffold --allow-tools Edit Bash`, 2 runs per case per variant:

| | `51f1347` (`code-review`) | renamed `coderabbit-review` |
|---|---:|---:|
| Whole suite, cases fully passed (50) | 28 | 32 |
| Mean score | 0.71 | 0.82 |
| This skill loaded, "check my changes before I push" | 0/2 | 2/2 |
| This skill loaded, "verify the fix I made" | 0/2 | 2/2 |
| Ran `coderabbit review` with a shell, pre-push check | 0/2 | 2/2 |
| Controls (regex, proofreading, unit test) loaded nothing | 6/6 | 6/6 |

- A follow-up wording that puts "answer any CodeRabbit CLI question" first kept
`readiness-auth-denied` at 4/6 (the old description pooled 9/14) and ran
CodeRabbit 2/2 on the shell pre-push case.
- Still weak: "sanity-check my diff" (1/4) and "is this branch ready for a
PR?" (0/4) mostly get a manual review with no skill.
- The agent's own edit never loaded the skill (0/4 here, 0/6 earlier). The
Stop-hook reminder in #46 makes that 3/3.
- Without a shell, agents that load the skill still tend to review the diff
themselves; the skill now says not to present that as CodeRabbit's review.
