fix(conform-valibot): preserve empty-string defaults in optional and nullish schemas - #1365
parseWithValibot strips empty-string defaults to undefined, causing optional and nullish string fields to fail validation when missing or submitted empty.
Use lazy and lazyAsync to validate empty-string defaults against the original inner schema while preserving automatic coercion for other values. Dynamic and async defaults are also supported.
Add regression tests for missing and empty inputs, literal and function defaults, async schemas, and existing transformations and validation rules.
Generated Summary
Fixes parseWithValibot so optional, nullish, undefinedable, and exact-optional schemas preserve empty-string defaults. The implementation selects the original inner schema for empty-string defaults and the coerced schema for other values. Regression tests cover synchronous and asynchronous schemas, factory defaults, transformations, validation, and other defaults.
The Valibot coercion path now preserves empty-string defaults for optional and nullish schemas. Regression tests cover synchronous and asynchronous wrappers, and a changeset declares a patch release.

Summary
Select schema for defaulted input packages/conform-valibot/coercion.ts, packages/conform-valibot/tests/coercion/schema/empty-default.test.ts, .changeset/empty-valibot-default.md
During validation, wrappers with a defined default select the original inner schema for empty-string input and the coerced schema for other input. Tests cover synchronous and asynchronous wrappers, default factories, inner transformations and validation, and other default values. The changeset declares a patch release for @conform-to/valibot.
The change preserves empty-string defaults while retaining coercion for nonempty values. The remaining changing-factory edge case predates this change and can be addressed separately; merging is reasonable after normal checks.

Explanation
Issue #1364 requires optional string fields with default "" to parse to "" for missing and empty input. generateWrappedSchema now uses preserveEmptyDefault to select the original inner schema for the resolved empty default and the coerced schema for other values. Tests cover optional and nullish schemas, synchronous and asynchronous parsing, literal and factory defaults, missing and empty input, transformations, validation, and other default values. The changes also cover the related undefinedable and exactOptional wrapper cases described in the PR objectives.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changeset, coercion changes, and regression tests support the empty-string default fix. The undefinedable and exactOptional changes extend the same coercion behavior to related wrapper schemas. The tests verify existing coercion, transformations, validation, dynamic defaults, and non-empty defaults. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Add a test where the inner schema changes the empty default.
The should preserve a %s default cases use two inner schemas: v.string() and v.pipe(v.string(), v.trim(), v.maxLength(10)). Neither changes ''. If the empty default skipped the inner schema, the output would still be '', and every case would still pass. A test whose inner transform maps '' to another value would detect that bypass for a missing field. This adds regression coverage for the current behavior. It does not indicate a current failure.

Avoid a second default-factory call for a missing exactOptional field that resolves to ''.
For a missing key, the object parser calls the default factory once. If that result is '', the lazy selector calls the factory again. A factory that returns '' first and a nonempty string second can make the selector choose the coerced schema. The coerced schema turns '' into undefined, so the field fails with Expected string. A submitted '' calls the factory only once, inside the selector.
The selector needs one factory result for each parse. Do not replace it with a static type.default === '' check. That check rejects function defaults such as () => '', which packages/conform-valibot/tests/coercion/schema/empty-default.test.ts expects to be preserved.
Add a regression test for a missing field whose factory returns '' on the first call and a nonempty string on later calls. The test should assert that the result is '' and that the factory runs once. The file already uses vi.fn for factory call tracking.
This change requires a design decision, so this comment does not include a diff.
Note: this behaviour predates this PR (already present at merge base 363289a77f86); the change keeps it reachable.

Update the lazy schema selector around getDefault(type) to reuse the single
default-factory result for each parse, so a missing exactOptional field whose
factory returns an empty string remains an empty string without calling the
factory again. Preserve support for function defaults, and add a regression test
using a factory that returns an empty string once and a nonempty string
afterward; assert the parsed result and single call.

Thanks for catching these remaining cases and providing the fix and regression tests! I’ve cherry-picked your commit and verified that the tests pass. The helper extraction makes the handling of empty-string defaults more consistent across wrappers. I appreciate your contribution!
