What

The response example on the browser location page now shows "locale_source": "default" instead of "metro".

Why

kernel/kernel#4926 renames the source value for a field that comes from the browser's region from metro, an internal term, to default.

Breaking change, safe to ship now

The page documents a value kernel/kernel#4926 renames, which breaks anyone who checks for metro. Nobody does yet:

• The location field has been in production since 2026-10-19 22:59 UTC. Setting a location is limited by feature flag to Kernel's internal orgs and three opted-in orgs.
• Since then, 3 browsers in production have had a location set, all in Kernel's internal org (one was the rollout smoke test). The three opted-in orgs created about 8.2k browsers and set no location.
• The SDKs gained the field in 0.128.0, released 2026-10-19 23:39 UTC, and the docs page (Document browser location controls #602) published 2026-10-20 21:47 UTC.
