docs(trace): pass the JVM agent to Maven tests through Surefire's argLine - #3057
Problem: the JVM tracing recipe in docs/guide/dynamic-tracing.md said MAVEN_OPTS='-javaagent:...' mvn test.
MAVEN_OPTS configures only the JVM that runs Maven itself. Surefire runs the tests in a forked JVM (forkCount=1 by default), and that JVM never sees the agent.
Following the guide therefore produced a trace with no test method in it.
Fix (docs only): the Maven line now passes the agent through Surefire's argLine: mvn test -DargLine='-javaagent:...'. A paragraph explains:
why MAVEN_OPTS does not reach the tests, and that -DforkCount=0 is the other way;
to keep the argLine value quoted, since the ; between agent options would otherwise end the shell command;
how to set it once in the Surefire configuration of pom.xml, appending with @{argLine} when the pom already sets one (JaCoCo does, for its own agent).
Demo
Real Maven 3.9.11 with Surefire 3.2.5 and JUnit 5, on a two-class project. A small probe agent stands in for cgr-jvm-agent, which needs JDK 24 to build (this sandbox has JDK 21). It logs which JVM it attached to and which com.example classes that JVM loads.
main's recipe (MAVEN_OPTS): the agent attaches to Maven's own JVM and never sees a project class.
This branch's recipe (-DargLine): the agent attaches to the forked test JVM, which loads CalcTest and Calc.
Type of Change
Bug fix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue)
New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality)
Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected)
Negative (passes before and after):test_the_gradle_line_is_unchanged.
Wider run: full suite with Memgraph gave 110 failed, 17537 passed, 176 skipped. The 110 are exactly the set that fails on main in this sandbox (tiktoken download, virtualenv), so there are no new failures.
Manual: the demo above, running both recipes against real Maven and Surefire.

Updated the JVM tracing guide with Maven instructions for passing the tracing agent to forked test JVMs through Surefire.
Clarified that MAVEN_OPTS applies to Maven’s JVM, how forkCount=0 runs tests in that JVM, and that the test JVM requires JDK 24 or newer.
Added guidance on quoting semicolon-separated options, configuring Surefire in pom.xml, preserving existing flags and plugin-set properties, and using toolchains.
Tests
Added checks for the Maven instructions, including argLine precedence and existing settings, while retaining the Gradle example.
…Line
The JVM tracing recipe said `MAVEN_OPTS='-javaagent:...' mvn test`, but
MAVEN_OPTS only sets the JVM running Maven itself. Surefire forks the
test JVM (forkCount=1 by default) and takes its flags from argLine, so
the agent attached to Maven and traced no test method.
The recipe now passes the agent with `mvn test -DargLine='...'`, keeps
the value quoted for the `;` between agent options, names the pom
alternative (appending to an existing argLine with @{argLine}, as JaCoCo
needs) and the one case MAVEN_OPTS works: -DforkCount=0. A test pins the
recipe.

Walkthrough
The JVM tracing guide replaces its Maven MAVEN_OPTS example with Surefire argLine instructions. New tests check the Maven guidance and confirm that the Gradle example remains.

Summary
Surefire agent recipe and checks docs/guide/dynamic-tracing.md, codebase_rag/tests/test_jvm_trace_maven_recipe.py
The guide explains how to pass the agent to Surefire’s forked test JVM, quote options, and retain existing argLine settings. It also documents -DforkCount=0, JDK 24 or newer, and toolchains. Tests check this guidance and confirm that the Gradle example remains.
The Maven recipe can fail to start tests when it cannot find the agent JAR. Use an absolute path before merging.

`test_mcp_context_scopes_free_text_search_to_the_resolved_project` mocked
`list_projects` as [local, other], but the server's default project is the
name its root derives to, which carries a path hash since #2412. The
check from #2461 refuses a default the graph does not list, so the tool
returned that error before any search ran and the test failed on main
and in every PR's test job. The mocked graph now lists the derived name.

Review found that the guide's pom advice, `<argLine>@{argLine}
-javaagent:...</argLine>` "when the pom already sets argLine", fails for
a pom whose Surefire configuration holds literal flags such as
`<argLine>-Xmx512m</argLine>`. `@{argLine}` reads the argLine property a
plugin like JaCoCo sets, not the element's earlier contents, so those
flags were dropped, and with no such property the unresolved token kept
the test JVM from starting. Checked with Maven 3.9.11 and Surefire 3.2.5,
which also showed that such an element overrides `-DargLine`, so the
command-line recipe alone never reaches those tests.
The guide now says to add the agent after the flags the element holds
(`<argLine>-Xmx512m -javaagent:...</argLine>`), keeps `@{argLine}` for
the case where a plugin sets the property, and notes that the element
wins over `-DargLine`. A test pins both.

Use an absolute path to the agent JAR in the Maven command.
make jvm-agent writes build/cgr-jvm-agent.jar relative to the code-graph-rag checkout. The mvn test example runs in the project under test, and Surefire starts each module's forked test JVM in that module's directory. The relative path can then fail to resolve, and the forked JVM can fail to start with a missing javaagent JAR. In the example, use the absolute path to the built JAR.

Update the Maven command example so the javaagent argument uses an absolute path
to the JAR produced by make jvm-agent, rather than a path relative to the
project under test. Keep the include and repo options unchanged.
