fix(compiler-sfc): infer component name for an empty <script setup> block (fix #6704) - #16035
Scope: this covers the "empty <script setup>" half of the issue. Template-only SFCs (no <script> tag at all) are turned into a component by the bundler plugin, so attaching __name for them has to happen there - see the note at the end. Happy to leave the issue open for that half if you prefer.
<script setup> blocks whose content is empty are discarded by the SFC parser (ignoreEmpty, introduced in #3520), so compileScript() bails out with SFC contains no <script> tags and no __name is emitted.
__name is what KeepAlive's include/exclude (see getComponentName in runtime-core/src/component.ts) and devtools use to identify a component, so:
This keeps empty <script setup> blocks so that the existing name inference runs, which is what the issue was diagnosed as (#6704 (comment)):
exportdefault{__name: 'Foo',setup(){}}
Empty normal <script> blocks are still ignored, since they carry no meaning and would compile to a module without a default export.
Scope note: template-only SFCs (no <script> tag at all) are not covered here - when no script block exists the bundler plugins generate the component object themselves, so __name has to be attached on their side. With this change an empty <script setup> block becomes a working opt-in for those components.
Tests:
packages/compiler-sfc/__tests__/parse.spec.ts: empty <script setup> is kept by default, empty <script> is still dropped
packages/compiler-sfc/__tests__/compileScript.spec.ts: __name is inferred both for script setup-only and for script + script setup (both empty)

The parser now retains empty <script setup> blocks when filtering empty blocks. Tests cover the retained block and filename-derived component names in generated code.
Changes: Empty Script Setup Parsing and Compilation
The parser retains empty <script setup> blocks when ignoreEmpty is enabled. The parse test checks that an empty regular <script> block remains ignored.
Tests check that an empty <script setup> block produces the filename-derived name FooBar and valid generated code, with and without an empty regular <script> block.
The new component-name tests block the unit-test workflow. Update their snapshots and rerun the tests before merging.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed hunks relate to #6704. The parse.ts change adds one condition. It keeps empty <script setup> blocks and leaves the existing template exclusion, isEmpty and hasSrc checks unchanged, so empty non-setup <script> blocks are still dropped unless they have src. The two test files add coverage for the new behavior in parse.spec.ts and compileScript.spec.ts. No unrelated files or behavior changes appear in the reviewed diff. The downstream effect of keeping empty setup blocks in the descriptor follows directly from the intended fix.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue #6704 requires that components without a script block, or with an empty one, receive a name so that KeepAlive include/exclude can match them. The diff at head covers only the empty case. In packages/compiler-sfc/src/parse.ts, the new guard keeps an empty <script setup> block when ignoreEmpty is set, so compileScript() infers __name. The tests in compileScript.spec.ts ('empty <script setup> block' and 'empty <script setup> block alongside an empty <script> block') check this inferred __name: 'FooBar' output. This satisfies the empty-script-setup part of #6704. The template-only case, an SFC with no <script> tag, is not implemented. The PR description states this case is out of scope. No code in the diff attaches a name to such components. The issue text names this case explicitly, so the requirement stays unmet.
Resolution
Implement name inference for template-only SFCs, or document that the linked issue is only partly addressed and link a follow-up issue for the template-only case. The fix must make a component with no <script> block match KeepAlive include/exclude by name. The change can sit in compiler-sfc or in the bundler plugin path that generates the component object, provided the implementation and an automated test cover it.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 3 files.
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

closevuejs#6704
An empty `<script setup>` block is discarded by the SFC parser
(`ignoreEmpty`, introduced in vuejs#3520), so `compileScript()` bails out with
"SFC contains no <script> tags" and no `__name` is attached to the component.
`__name` is what `KeepAlive`'s `include`/`exclude` and devtools use to
identify a component, so an SFC like
```vue
<script setup>
</script>
<template><div /></template>
```
cannot be matched by `<KeepAlive include="Foo">` even though the same
component with a single statement in `<script setup>` can.
Keep empty `<script setup>` blocks (empty normal `<script>` blocks are still
ignored, since they carry no meaning) so that the existing name inference
runs:
```js
export default {
__name: 'Foo',
setup() {}
}
```
Template-only SFCs (no `<script>` tag at all) are not covered here: the
bundler plugins generate the component object themselves when no script
block exists, so they would need to attach `__name` on their side. Adding an
empty `<script setup>` block is now a working opt-in for those.
