A <slot> outlet with a dynamic key keeps its previous content when the key changes from undefined to 0 or ''. For example, typing into a slotted input and changing the outlet key leaves the typed text in place because both renders use the same synthetic fragment key.
Honor explicit outlet keys of 0 and '' when choosing the slot fragment key. Preserve the existing branch-key selection so conditional slots keep their content identity, along with the existing symbol handling and fallback-content suffix.
The compiler/runtime regressions cover explicit falsy outlet keys and switching conditional default slots inside a conditional slot outlet. The conditional-slot test checks that switching either way replaces the input node and clears its typed value.
Summary by CodeRabbit
Summary
Bug Fixes
Slot outlets now honor keys such as 0 and '', and distinguish keys by type and whether they belong to actual slot content or fallback content.
Unchanged slot content retains its input value during unrelated updates. When slot keys or conditional branches change, the outlet resets the input value instead of retaining stale state.

Walkthrough
renderSlot now selects and normalizes slot keys using defined precedence, and marks fragment keys as fallback or actual content. Unit and integration tests cover key formats and input replacement when slot identity changes.

renderSlot prefers a non-nullish props.key, then a truthy branchKey, then the valid slot content key. It normalizes nullish or symbol keys and includes the key type and content marker in the fragment key. Unit expectations cover the resulting key formats.
Integration tests check that unchanged slot content retains input state and that key, fallback, or conditional branch changes replace the input. They also cover outlet keys 0 and ''.

The props.key fix makes sense, but changing branchKey || to branchKey ?? also makes the compiler-injected 0 override the conditional slot’s content key.
For example, with <slot v-if="$slots.default" /> in the child and v-if/v-else branches for #default in the parent, the fragment keys previously changed from "0" to "1". With this change, both become "0", losing the branch identity attached by createSlots() and allowing same-type content to retain state instead of remounting.
Could we preserve the existing branch-key selection while fixing explicit falsy keys?

Keep a falsy branch key of 0.
branchKey || treats an injected 0 as absent. The lookup then falls back to validSlotContent.key, which is undefined for a plain vnode array. The fragment key becomes "_default" instead of "0". The it.each(['branch', 0]) case in packages/runtime-core/__tests__/helpers/renderSlot.spec.ts expects "0", so that case fails.
Use a nullish check for the branch key. Only null and undefined then fall through to the content key.

packages/runtime-core/src/helpers/renderSlot.ts:98-103 Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Keep explicit slot keys type-distinct so 0 and "0" do not share a fragment identity.
When the <slot> key is numeric 0, the key expression converts it to the string "0". A string key "0" also converts to "0". The fragments then share one key, so switching between them can patch the existing fragment instead of replacing it. Stateful components in the slot content can keep their state. The same collision occurs for fallback content, where both forms produce "0_fb".
Derive the fragment key so that numeric and string keys remain distinct for both actual and fallback content. The base code did not produce this collision.
