Whole binary LTO: worth the effort? #848

Following up on the question in #846. Whole binary LTO sounds like a big effort: Alpine builds its packages with -Os and without -flto by default (abuild default.conf#L1-L2), so the static libraries from apk would stay outside the optimization, and getting them in means building them ourselves.

Is the possible speedup worth it, enough to explore it and find out how much faster ffmpeg would get?
