fix(game): SDD workshop run-through fixes (#342) - #343
Conversation
Type game: one "save my typed answers" checkbox, no "Play without recording". None game: no recording choice at all, just "Let's play" (joins without consent). Voice game, or lookup failed: unchanged. The public screen view now carries the answer mode the next turn gets. Part of #342
…ashes Part of [#342 📋](#342) (item 2, facilitator side). - First load: skeleton instead of bare "Loading…" (game page + workshop list). - Every action button shows a spinner + label on the one in flight, all disabled meanwhile; run() ignores re-entry. - Writes cancel in-flight polls so a stale poll can't flash old state back. - Round/details editors stay open until the save succeeds (no lost edits, no stale flash). - Co-host options keep previous data across refetch; deck selects wait for decks. - Button gets a `pending` prop (spinner, disabled, aria-busy).
) Projector: smaller round clock, title/host, how-to-play, counts, smaller QR with join URL + code; fits 1280x720 and 1920x1080 with no scroll; QR shown in lobby too; spinner until first poll. Player: dark WhoCards look matching apps/app (maze backdrop, yellow primary, dark fields), branded first-load state, pending spinners on join/pair/claim/ finish/save/feedback/retry, network notice pinned so polls never shift layout, smaller turn clock. Part of #342
# Conflicts: # apps/website/src/pages/events/sdd-2026/_components/join.tsx
- Met-before only blocks while someone new is in reach; 2 players never get stuck. - Host mints a facilitator standby link (key in game.settings, no migration); standby players cover only the odd one out and stay off projector counts. - Players can type a partner's name instead of the code; namesakes get a pick list. Part of #342 (items 3, 4 + name pairing).
Players rate their own question once their turn is finished (any answer mode, timed out too); tap again to clear. Optional, never blocks the flow. Not shown on the projector or host view. Needs migration 0005 (pnpm -F app db:migrate) before deploy. Part of [#342 📋](#342) <details><summary>For AI</summary> - DB: nullable game_turn.question_vote smallint, check in (-1, 1); 0005 SQL is re-runnable (ADD COLUMN IF NOT EXISTS, constraint in a duplicate_object guard). - API: game.round.vote({turnId, vote: 1 | -1 | null}); port.voteQuestion. Refusals: not_found (unknown turn), not_your_turn (someone else's), new still_answering (own turn still open; no existing code fit). - View: TurnView.questionVote, only set on the viewer's own turns. - UI: QuestionVote in its own file, rendered in the answered card of turn.tsx; optimistic, last tap wins. EN copy only: player copy has no HU yet. </details>

Host can pick "Physical cards" per round. Phones show "Draw a card from the deck and read it out" instead of a question; timer, pairing, answer mode and saving work as usual. Part of #342 (item 11). <details><summary>For AI</summary> - New `questionPlan` mode `physical` (jsonb, no migration). `deck_slug` records `PHYSICAL_SOURCE` ('physical'); turns store `PHYSICAL_QUESTION_ID` ('physical:card'). - questionText returns null for the sentinel; usedRefs skips it; checkPlan accepts the plan; questionForTurn hands out the sentinel. - RoundView gains `physical: boolean`; projector step 3 swaps to "Draw a card and take turns answering". - Vote API refuses physical turns with new refusal `physical_card`; phone hides the thumbs. My answers labels them "Physical card". - Recap asked list / take-home question skip the sentinel (via null text and empty source refs); covered by a games-logic test. - Host editor: new mode option hides deck and question pickers; summary line reads "Players draw a card from the deck in the room". </details>
Host can send, once the game has ended, a second email listing the questions each player answered with a nudge to sit with them again. Same audience as the recap (consent + email), never standby facilitators, skips players who answered nothing. Send-once/retry state lives in hosted_game.settings.revisit; no migration. Recap and revisit now share the claim/save store calls (keyed by mailing), the router's sendOnce and the mailer's Resend batch helper; the host page renders both through one MailPanel. Part of #342
Copy: any host, any status -> new draft with organizer, questions, current answer mode, unstarted rounds and co-hosts; no players, play, standby or recap state. Delete: creator/admin only, refused while live; FK cascades remove the rest. Part of #342

Join QR + code, "how this round works" in plain sentences, round clock, room counts, and a dimmed control bar (go live, start/end round, answer mode, end game). Part of [#342 📋](#342) (item 13). <details><summary>For AI</summary> - Route `_authed/host/$gameId_.present.tsx` (non-nested under `$gameId`), same `requireHost` guard; `staticData.bare` makes `_authed.tsx` render just the Outlet (no nav chrome). - `components/host/use-host-game.ts`: detail poll + `run`/`busy` mutation flow + confirm prompts, extracted from `$gameId.tsx`, which now uses it too (adds a "Projector mode" link). - `components/host/round-brief.ts`: pure `roundToBrief` (live, else next pending) and `roundBrief` sentences (turn time, question mode incl. physical, answer mode, overtime, odd-one-out incl. standby facilitator); unit tested. - `games.detail` now also returns `room` (the public projector's joined/paired/talking/done). - Text sizes in viewport units so 1280x720 and 1920x1080 lay out identically, no scroll. </details>

None-mode joiners keep answer consent, namesakes show join time, standby facilitators stay out of recaps, standby join is one transaction, delete says NOT_FOUND when already gone, round brief odd-one-out line is always true. <details><summary>For AI</summary> - join.tsx: None mode shows "If the host turns on answers later, let me save mine" (default on) and passes it through; Type/Voice unchanged. - Player gains joinedAt (game_player.created_at); round.candidates returns language + joinedAt; pairing.tsx shows "joined HH:MM", plus language when namesakes differ. - buildRecaps/recapProps skip standby players (recipients, event.players, event.languages); buildRevisits shares the helper. - GamePort.createPlayer takes standby; drizzle port inserts the player and appends settings.standby in one transaction; addStandby removed. - games.deleteGame re-loads on a refused delete so a gone game is NOT_FOUND, a live one CONFLICT. - Standards: one-line copyOf doc, Mailing plain union, PairCandidate plain type, isMode derived from questionPlanSchema, no redundant standbyKey guard. - Skipped: merging ANSWER_MODES/ANSWERS (host hints vs room instructions, different text); moving round-brief to packages/game for screen.tsx (public screen lacks plan + standby, more than ~30 lines). </details> Part of [#342 📋](#342)
Voice mode: Done goes straight back to the game. The take is queued on the device (IndexedDB), uploaded one at a time with backoff, resumed on reload, and the server transcribes and saves it in one call. My answers shows pending takes and lets players edit or delete saved transcripts.

Treat {saved: false} as a final outcome, not as saved.
The handler returns {saved: false} with status 200 for a silent take (transcribe.ts). createAnswerUpload checks only that the schema parse succeeds, so saved: false also returns 'saved'. The queue then removes the item, and the player gets no sign that the answer was dropped. If that is the intended behavior, ignore this comment. Otherwise, use body.data.saved to choose the outcome.

shared is module-level, so the queue retains the upload callback created by the first hook mount. A later mount can provide a different TokenStore, but uploads still call the original store. Each createTokenStore() instance has its own in-memory map, so this can return stale or missing tokens when storage is unavailable or when one instance has cached a cleared token.

One upload blocks later answers
If an upload request stalls, createAnswerUpload has no timeout and the only queue worker waits for it before starting another recording. Later answers remain pending, and reconnecting cannot restart the worker because running stays true. This is a non-blocking reliability concern: saving resumes only when that request settles or the page reloads. Add an abortable timeout that returns a retryable failure so other answers can proceed.

add starts saving the recording locally without waiting for that write. The IndexedDB store reads the audio bytes before opening its write transaction, so a successful upload can remove the recording before the original write finishes. That late write puts the audio back into storage, and the next page load queues it again. This is a non-blocking persistence concern that leaves completed audio on the device and causes redundant uploads. Order writes and removals for each turnId so a completed recording cannot reappear.
Artifacts
- This complete executed script bundles unchanged HEAD code, runs the timing control and delayed-byte reproduction in Chromium, and asserts persistence and reload behavior, making the confirmed race reproducible.
- The control command uploaded the recording after its IndexedDB write completed, then removed it and reloaded the page; storage and the queue remained empty.
- The reproduction command delayed the persistence byte read through successful upload and removal, then released it and reloaded the page; the completed recording and audio returned and another upload attempt began.

If a saved answer is deleted while its recording remains queued—for example, after a lost successful upload reply—the retry cannot settle. listResponses hides the deleted row, so this check misses it; claimTranscription still sees that row and rejects the request with 409 even after the claim expires. The queue treats 409 as retryable, retains the audio after exhausting its attempts, and starts another batch on reload. This is a non-blocking concern that brings back a failed pending item and repeats requests. Acknowledge an already-deleted answer as a completed upload without restoring its text, so the queue can remove the audio.
Workshop run-through fixes, items 1–14 of #342 📋.

Findings
Summary
This PR updates the workshop host and player flows.
Three non-blocking issues remain in voice-answer saving: a stalled request blocks later recordings, a delayed local write can restore completed audio after reload, and deleted answers can remain queued through repeated retry batches. These concerns affect
apps/website/src/lib/game/answer-queue.tsandapps/website/src/server/game/transcribe.ts; they do not block merging.Acknowledgments from
acharlop: migration0005must run before deployment because every player page requires the newgame_turn.question_votecolumn; already-open tabs can lose one upload across deployment, with reload fixing the endpoint change; merging host/player answer-mode labels was intentionally skipped because they use different text; sharing instructions across both projectors was intentionally skipped because the public screen lacks plan data.Deployment still requires migration
