All notable changes to the "anime-theme" extension will be documented in this file.

## [0.1.2] - Unreleased

### Fixed
- Use VS Code's installation root for background file paths, including macOS Code Helper processes and versioned Windows installs.
- Prefer the desktop workbench stylesheet, keep the web stylesheet fallback, and stop guessing the removed `workbench.web.api.css` file.
- Update vulnerable transitive dependencies: picomatch, flatted, js-yaml and brace-expansion.

### Development
- Add installation-layout regression tests and an extension manifest/file test.
- Add Linux, Windows and macOS CI for clean install, compile, tests and VSIX packaging, with downloadable build artifacts.
- Pin the VSIX packaging tool and update GitHub Actions runtimes; enable weekly dependency update groups.
- CodeQL scans now run successfully on current code.

### Release status
- Prepared for manual Marketplace publication. No automatic publishing workflow is added.
- Regression fixtures cover macOS paths, but real macOS background installation still needs testing. Issues #1 and #3 remain open pending that confirmation; actual write permissions may still need attention.

## Background troubleshooting (0.1.2)

The 0.1.2 source fix uses `vscode.env.appRoot` instead of deriving the installation path from the extension-host executable. This addresses incorrect background paths on macOS Code Helper processes and versioned Windows installs. It also prefers `workbench.desktop.main.css`, with `workbench.web.main.css` as a fallback.

The generic installation error can still indicate real write-permission problems. Path fixtures pass on Linux, Windows and macOS CI, but a real macOS background installation has not yet been confirmed. If installation still fails with 0.1.2, include your VS Code version and the `[Anime Theme] Path Detection` console lines in the existing issue, removing personal folder names first. Do not disable OS security protections to work around an unknown error.

## Build and release manually

After the release-preparation PR is merged, pull the default branch (`master`, not `main`), then use Node.js 22:

```sh
git switch master
git pull --ff-only
npm ci
npm test
npm run package
```

`npm run package` compiles the extension and uses the pinned VSCE tool to create `anime-theme.vsix`. Install that file with **Extensions > ... > Install from VSIX...** and test background installation before uploading it manually to the Marketplace publisher dashboard. Confirm the package version is 0.1.2. There is no automatic Marketplace publishing step.

CI performs clean install, compile, tests and VSIX packaging on Linux, Windows and macOS. Its successful build checks are not a substitute for testing a real VS Code background installation. See [CHANGELOG.md](CHANGELOG.md) for release changes.
