Change

Renames the remaining pre-rename product names in the docs and the installer that nothing depends on:

  • docs/guide.md: new installs put Node in ~/.local/share/ovis/node (install.sh NODE_DIR), not ~/.local/share/herdr-web-ui/node. The pre-rename path is still documented further down for older installs.
  • README, INSTALL, docs/development.md and AGENTS.md called the app "the web UI"; they now say Ovis.
  • The film renders to site/media/ovis-film.{mp4,jpg} instead of herdr-web-ui-film (scripts/film/render.ts and the doc). site/media/ is not committed and nothing else names the file.
  • install.ps1: the installer's internal Add-Type job type is now Ovis.GhJob instead of HerdrWebUi.GhJob, mirrored in scripts/windows-install.test.ps1, which splices the Assign call out of the installer's text. The type lives only in the PowerShell session, so nothing persisted changes.
  • telemetry/README.md: names OVIS_TELEMETRY_URL as the variable that does not exist on purpose, and says why the Worker and D1 database keep the herdr-web-ui-telemetry name.

Kept on purpose:

  • herdrweb.dev redirects and installer/demo URLs.
  • Legacy plugin id devswha.herdr-web-ui, HERDR_WEB_* env names and pre-rename paths, documented for upgrades.
  • Remote bundle and bridge paths (~/.local/share/herdr-web-ui/remote-vN, %LOCALAPPDATA%\herdr-web-ui, ~/.config/herdr-web-ui/bridges), a cross-version contract.
  • The deployed telemetry Worker and D1 names, and telemetry/worker.ts, where any edit needs a redeploy.
  • ovis.sh's "formerly herdr web UI" notice with its translations, the JSON-LD alternateName (scripts/ovis-site.test.ts), verbatim testimonials and the llms.txt rename note.
  • Release notes.
  • AGENTS.md's real herdr-web-main.service unit and ~/.herdr/worktrees/herdr-web-ui* dirs.

Not touched to avoid conflicts: docs/guide.md lines 161 and 178 ("the web UI's GJC extension") sit inside hunks of open PRs #1652, #1650, #1647 and #1442.

No src/ or server/ file changes, and nothing changes behaviour, so there is no changelog fragment.

Validation

  • bun run check fast passes: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build, and 6253 unit tests with 0 failures.
  • git grep -i -E 'HerdrWebUi|herdr-web-ui-film' finds nothing.
  • The install.ps1 type rename is covered by scripts/windows-install.test.ps1 in the required Native Windows install job.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated installation and setup instructions to identify Ovis as the place to add SSH-based remote PCs and configure the manual-QA server.
    • Clarified that GJC chat and completion alerts use Ovis’s native extension, and that telemetry cannot be redirected through an environment variable.
    • Updated development guidance and film output names to use Ovis terminology, including ovis-film.mp4 and ovis-film.jpg.
    • Updated the Quick start guide’s Node 22 installation path.

Documentation, installer helper references, and film output paths now use Ovis naming. Telemetry documentation clarifies the unavailable environment variable and the retained legacy Worker and database name.

Changes: Ovis naming updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update Ovis references in documentation
AGENTS.md, INSTALL.md, README.md, docs/development.md, docs/guide.md, telemetry/README.md
Documentation updates references to Ovis and changes the telemetry environment-variable name. It also notes that the Worker and D1 database retain the herdr-web-ui-telemetry name.
Rename installer helper namespace
install.ps1, scripts/windows-install.test.ps1
The embedded C# namespace and PowerShell references now use Ovis. The Windows installer tests use Ovis.GhJob; job and process handling remain unchanged.
Rename film output paths
scripts/film/render.ts, docs/development.md
The renderer and development guide now use ovis-film.mp4 and ovis-film.jpg paths.

Merge pass: a gate reviewer on a different model from the author's reviewed this docs and installer rename. No findings.

Installer

  • Ovis.GhJob's declaration, its -as [type] guard and every reference agree.
  • The test's text splice still matches the Assign call exactly.
  • The old and new fully qualified type names cannot collide in a single PowerShell session.

Docs and paths

  • The documented Node directory matches install.sh (NODE_DIR).
  • No path, supported env name, URL or unit that installed users or other versions rely on changes.
  • The AGENTS.md edit only changes wording; every rule stays intact.
  • No old film-name reference remains, in the site, workflows or .gitignore.

Merge-pass checks

  • git grep -E 'HerdrWebUi|herdr-web-ui-film' finds nothing.
  • GhJob appears only in install.ps1 and its test.
  • server/telemetry.ts reads no env var for its URL.

Windows execution of the renamed type is covered by the required Native Windows install job, which passed, along with Real Windows install. All required checks are green and no review thread is open.
