feat(push): tell a device when its push alerts fail, and repair them - #1995
A phone or browser whose push alerts stopped working is told so, instead of finding out days later. When the push service retired this device's subscription, the server no longer knows it, or it was made for another server key, one line over the pane (and the Test notification row of Settings > Alerts) says what happened and offers Turn alerts on again, which subscribes the device anew and sends the confirmation push; the line leaves once that push is accepted. A refusal by the push service is told too, with an Alerts button that opens Settings, where Send test says whether it still refuses. A transient failure (no answer, throttling, a 5xx), or a failure older than the last accepted push, never raises the line, and no probe push is ever sent.
How
server/push.ts keeps the outcome of the last push to each subscription in push-delivery.json (owner-only, by endpoint hash, with the owner and a hash of the keys it was recorded for; bounded and expired like the retired list; removed on unsubscribe and device revocation).
New POST /api/push/status { subscription } (shared/protocol.ts, types in shared/push.ts): answers PushSubscriptionStatus only to the subscription's owner holding its keys. An unknown subscription, another owner's and one whose keys do not match all get the same 404 subscription_not_found, so nothing is enumerated. A watching device may ask about its own subscription, as it may subscribe. The open LAN signs in as no device, so it gets 403 status_unavailable before any record is read, and its app stays quiet.
src/lib/pushHealth.ts: a pure classifier (adapted from Agent of Empires, credited in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md) and one shared state for the notice and Settings. A look waits for the subscription operation under way and drops an answer for a subscription replaced meanwhile, by this page or from outside it (another tab, the service worker's renewal); Settings' test line is tied to the subscription it tested. In the phone app the look reads the app's own subscription for this PC.
The demo transport answers the new route; scripts/push-health-demo-regression.ts joins the browser lane.
Design reference: Agent of Empires' PushHealthBanner (an app-wide notice for this device's push health); unlike it, the line is not dismissible and repair is offered only where subscribing anew helps.
Verification
bun run check fast on the PR head: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build, and unit tests (7290 pass, 0 fail, 24 skip).
server/push.test.ts, server/push-health.contract.test.ts, src/lib/pushHealth.test.ts, src/lib/push.test.ts: the record, the route's owner and key proof (an unknown, a foreign and a key-mismatched subscription get one identical 404; the open LAN a 403 status_unavailable before any lookup), revocation and unsubscribe, a record write that fails, expired and malformed records, and every race in the client state (stale answers, a reset during an action, a replacement from another tab, a test's line and the subscription it tested, the phone app's subscription). Each fix in this branch was mutation-checked: removing it fails its test.
scripts/push-health-demo-regression.ts (new, in the browser lane) on the demo build with a stand-in PushManager, at 390 and 1440, light and dark, and Korean at 390: a subscription its push service retired shows one notice over the pane and the same line in Settings; the repair refuses the retired endpoint, subscribes anew, sends the confirmation push and the notice leaves; a refusal shows an Alerts button and Send test clears it; key mismatch, missing, transient, denied, unsupported, offline, a look still under way and a watching device's refused test. A forced retirement on load is the issue's done-when, and it passes in every combination (97 captures).
scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts: every Settings page fits a 390 and a 320 phone in all four languages, and Back steps out cleanly.
scripts/ui-contexts-regression.ts (the real server and an isolated test herdr session): PASS Settings push test: sent, stale/local missing subscription, recovery, failure, retired notice shared with Settings and cleared by its repair, off, mobile layout.
Review
This changes an authenticated HTTP contract (POST /api/push/status), so it needs a real review. Reviews run before this push, each finding verified and fixed with a test that fails without the fix:
Merge pass Astra gate on f575427: one blocker (an unsubscribe cleared the retired mark, so a watching device could take another owner's retired endpoint over), fixed by keeping the mark through an unsubscribe, with a contract test.
omo-native-code-reviewer: one HIGH (an open-LAN sign-in got a permanent "missing" notice whose repair could not help), fixed; then APPROVE.
Astra gate (gpt-6-astra): four MEDIUMs (a delivery-record write failure skipped retirement; unrepresentable stored times threw; a 5xx cleared a showing notice; a test's line claimed for a replacement subscription), fixed; round 2 APPROVE.
Codex Sol (gpt-6.1-sol, xhigh): seven MEDIUMs over three rounds. Four were the Astra ones. The others were: expired records left on disk after a revocation; a permission taken back in the phone's Settings leaving a repair notice standing; a test that found no subscription having its line claimed by a new one; a refused key the phone app cannot read getting no repair. All fixed; round 3 APPROVE.
The reviewers' sandboxes could not run the server suites (listener and preload errors there), so their verdicts on those parts come from reading; every suite ran here.
Notes
DELETE /api/push/subscribe (an explicit goodbye) drops the endpoint's delivery record but keeps its Alerts: "Turn alerts on again" registers the same push endpoint the push service already retired #1038 retired mark: that route proves neither owner nor keys, and clearing the mark there would let anyone register a retired endpoint again with keys of their own (the merge pass's Astra gate found this; a contract test now covers it). The mark goes with its time to live or its owner's revocation.
A phone app subscription reports no server key. Every load subscribes the app again with the server's current key, and both plugins register a new relay endpoint when it changed; if that registration fails, a key-mismatch refusal of the old endpoint offers the repair.

📝 Summary
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added alerts-health notices when a device’s push subscription has a persistent problem, with guidance to repair alerts or review Settings.
Added a repair flow that re-enables alerts and tests delivery, with progress and outcome feedback.
Alerts can now report when a notification service rejects or retires a device subscription.
Added Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese translations for the new alerts-health messages and actions.
Documentation
Documented alerts-health notice states and added a changelog entry describing push-health reporting.
The PR adds server-side push delivery history and an owner-verified status endpoint. The client uses that status to classify subscription health, coordinate test and repair actions, and show app-wide notices. The PR also adds demo behavior, regression coverage, translations, and documentation.
Changes: Push alert health and repair
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Delivery outcome history shared/push.ts, server/push.ts, server/push.test.ts
The server classifies and stores delivery outcomes with subscription identity checks, bounded retention, and cleanup. Shared types define the status response.
Owner-verified status endpoint shared/protocol.ts, server/push.ts, server/index.ts, server/push-health.contract.test.ts
The POST status route validates subscription and device identity, then returns the caller’s status or a not-found response. Tests cover paired, watching, revoked, and open-LAN devices.
Client health state and notification lifecycle src/lib/api.ts, src/lib/push.ts, src/lib/pushHealth.ts, src/lib/useNotifications.ts, src/lib/pushHealth.test.ts, src/lib/push.test.ts
The client reads subscription status, classifies health, coordinates refreshes and test or repair actions, and updates health as notifications are enabled, disabled, or refreshed.
The app shows a health notice with repair or Alerts settings actions. Settings controls share health state. The change also updates translations, design documentation, and regression checks.
The demo models subscription status and test outcomes. The browser regression runner covers health states and repair interactions across viewport, theme, and language settings, and CI runs the script.

If the server's state directory becomes unwritable while expired retired-push entries exist, subscribing, delivering a push that comes back 404/410, or revoking a device can fail. Wrapping the expiry write in a try/catch, as the initial-load path already does, closes the gap. It is a small fix and does not block the rest of the push-health feature.

Explanation
The title "feat(push): tell a device when its push alerts fail, and repair them" matches the main change: a device-facing push-health notice with a repair action, backed by delivery-history tracking and a status endpoint. The summaries confirm the notice component, repair flow, and status route. The title is specific and accurate, though it is slightly long at 68 characters.

Explanation
The description follows the template. It has a Change section that describes the problem and the resulting behavior, and it links the issue (#1039). It has a Validation section that lists the checks run and the results, including the server and client suites, the browser regression, and the contract tests for the HTTP change. It also has Review and Notes sections with extra context. The description is thorough and specific.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed server, shared protocol, client state, UI, translations, demo transport, regression scripts, tests, documentation, and third-party notice all support the push-health feature in #1039 or its required repair path. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Explanation
Issue #1039 requires a dismissible device-scoped push-health banner. PushHealthNotice has no dismiss control or dismissal state, and its source comment explicitly defines it as “Not dismissible.” The implementation does cover the other stated coding objectives: owner/key-verified status, failure classification, stale-failure handling, repair or Alerts actions, shared Settings state, and the forced-retirement regression path.
Resolution
Add a dismiss action and the required state handling for the #1039 notice. Preserve the issue’s required repair and Settings behavior, and add automated tests for dismissal and subsequent health updates.

CodeRabbit hit its review limit on this PR ("Review limit reached"), so no CodeRabbit review ran. Per AGENTS.md, these code-review agent reviews stand in for it on this HTTP contract change. Each finding was reproduced or traced in the code, then fixed with a test that fails when the fix is removed.
omo-native-code-reviewer (APPROVE after one round)
HIGH: an open-LAN sign-in has no owner, so POST /api/push/status answered 404 for every subscription it made and the app showed a "missing" notice whose repair registered the same ownerless subscription again. Fixed: 403 status_unavailable before any record is read; the app takes it as nothing to go on.
LOW: the status route was not labelled in request logs. Fixed.
LOW: every success rewrites push-delivery.json (at most 1,000 records), and expiry can write twice per call. Left as is.
Astra gate (gpt-6-astra, APPROVE in round 2)
MEDIUM: a push-delivery.json write failure threw before a 410 retired the subscription. Fixed: the record write is logged and never throws.
MEDIUM: a stored time no Date can hold (1e100) made the status throw. Fixed: such records are dropped on load.
MEDIUM: any API error, a 5xx included, cleared a showing notice. Fixed: only a missing route (an older server) and status_unavailable count as an answer; anything else keeps what was known.
MEDIUM: a test still out when another tab replaced the subscription had its line claimed for the replacement. Fixed: a test names the endpoint it went to, and a repair the one it registered.
Codex Sol (gpt-6.1-sol, xhigh; APPROVE in round 3)
The four Astra MEDIUMs, fixed as above.
MEDIUM: records dropped on load (expired, over the bound) stayed on disk, so a revocation left the device's history. Fixed: a load that drops anything writes the file back, for the retired list too.
MEDIUM: a notification permission taken back in the phone's Settings left a repair notice standing. Fixed: a change away from granted reads the health again.
MEDIUM: a test that found no subscription had its "missing" line claimed by a subscription registered meanwhile. Fixed: "none held" is kept apart from "not known".
MEDIUM: after a server key change whose native re-registration failed, the phone app's old endpoint (no readable key) showed a refusal with no repair. Fixed: a key-mismatch refusal of a subscription whose key nobody can read offers the repair, which replaces a subscription whose key is not proven.
The reviewers' sandboxes could not run the server suites (listener and preload errors), so those verdicts come from reading; every suite, bun run check fast, the push-health browser regression and the ui-contexts push checks ran locally on this code.
feat(devices): revoke all pairings and announce new devices #1977 (revoke every device, already approved): conflicts in DESIGN.md, docs/development.md, scripts/ci-browser.sh, server/index.ts, server/push.ts, server/push.test.ts, shared/protocol.ts, site/demo/transport.ts, src/App.tsx and src/lib/api.ts.
Each merges cleanly into main on its own. #1975 and #1977 also conflict with each other. They merge after the 0.4.18 Release run, so this PR will need a rebase after whichever of them lands first. Astra is reviewing this PR now.
Noted. I am watching #1975 and #1977, and will rebase this branch onto main as soon as the first of them lands (one push), then again after the second if it conflicts.
They conflict with each other, so each later PR's lane rebases on main once the PR ahead of it has merged, and pushes once. The re-review then covers only the rebase and any new commits. All three touch server/ and shared/, so the first merge happens after the 0.4.18 Release run finishes.
Merge pass review of f575427. The Astra gate (omo-native-gate-reviewer, gpt-6-astra) rejected it on one authorization blocker.
What holds: normal detection and repair work. 96 targeted tests pass (94/94 locally), the five-combination browser matrix passes, and typecheck is clean.
BLOCKER B1 (authorization): a watch-only device can take over another owner's retired push endpoint (server/push.ts:666, :841-860, server/index.ts:348)
Sequence: a watch-only device that knows another owner's retired endpoint sends DELETE to remove its retirement mark, then POSTs the same endpoint with different keys.
Result: the device takes ownership of the endpoint. Over real HTTP this returns 204 on this PR. The same sequence is still blocked with 410 on main (4d2e360), so the PR introduces this.
What the attacker needs: knowledge of the endpoint, but not the victim's keys. Astra did not show a way to learn the endpoint.
Fix needed: enforce ownership for both clearing a retirement mark and replacing a subscription. Only the device or owner that held the subscription, or a driving owner, may do either. Add a contract regression for a cross-owner watch-only DELETE followed by POST.
Native platform checks were not run again.
This PR touches server/ and shared/. As agreed, it merges third, after #1975 and #1977, and after the 0.4.18 Release run. The re-review will cover only the new commits and the rebase.
B1 fixed locally in e17575fe8: an unsubscribe keeps the retired mark again (as on main), with a contract test for the cross-owner watch DELETE then POST (now 410). Not pushed: per the merge order it goes out in one push with the rebase after #1975 and #1977 land. The cancelled CI run is not rerun.
…on is replaced elsewhere
Another tab or the service worker's renewal can replace this device's subscription outside the page's own operations. A look now checks the subscription it read is still the one held before applying the server's answer, and Settings' test or repair line is tied to the subscription the first look after it found. The strings the notice and Settings now share move to the base dictionaries.
The app migrates herdr-web-ui:* keys to ovis:* before the page's own scripts run, so the regression's state key was gone by the time its stand-in PushManager read it and every case loaded as a fresh subscription.
…lerts stay quiet
An open-LAN sign-in has no owner, so POST /api/push/status answered 404 subscription_not_found for every subscription it made, and the app showed a missing-subscription notice whose repair registered the same ownerless subscription again. It now answers 403 status_unavailable before any record is looked at, which the app takes as nothing to go on. The status route is also labelled in request logs.
… a push's outcome
A push-delivery.json that cannot be written (a full disk) threw out of deliver() before a 410 retired the subscription, so the device got an error instead of subscription_gone. The records are telemetry: a failed write is logged and they stay in memory. A stored time no Date can hold (1e100) is dropped on load instead of throwing when the status is told.
… line to the subscription it tested
A 5xx from POST /api/push/status cleared a showing notice: only an older server's missing route and the open LAN's status_unavailable now count as an answer with nothing to say. A test still out when another tab replaced the subscription had its success line claimed for the replacement; a test now names the endpoint it went to, and a repair the one it registered.
…d on load
Records dropped while loading (expired, over the bound, malformed) stayed on disk, so an unsubscribe or a revocation found nothing of them to remove and a device's history outlived it. A load that drops anything now writes the file back. The #1038 retired-mark test reads its in-time control before the expired load, which now rewrites the file.
…ermission changes
A permission taken back in the phone's Settings is read only once the app is back, after the health look; the registration effect then left a repair notice standing that cannot help. A change away from granted now reads the health again, which tells a denied permission in Settings and no notice.
…er the repair for an unreadable refused key
A test that found no subscription now says so, so the next look drops its line when a registration has made one meanwhile. A key-mismatch refusal of a subscription whose key nobody can read (the phone app's) offers the repair: the server's key most likely changed and a registration with the new one failed, and subscribing anew replaces a subscription whose key is not proven.
…take a retired endpoint over
DELETE /api/push/subscribe proves neither owner nor keys. Clearing the endpoint's retired mark there let a watching device that knew another owner's retired endpoint register it again with keys of its own, which main refuses with 410. The goodbye now forgets the endpoint's delivery history only; the mark goes with its time to live or its owner's revocation. A contract test covers the cross-owner DELETE then POST.
Pushed 6330812, one push: rebased on main after #1975 and #1986, with the B1 fix in (e17575fe8 before the rebase): an unsubscribe keeps the retired mark again, as on main, and a contract test covers the cross-owner watch DELETE then POST, which now gets 410. On the lead's call this PR moved ahead of #1977, which is stuck on its own CI. Checked locally on this head: check fast (7290 pass), push-health browser regression, settings-pages, ui-contexts push checks. The re-review covers only the rebase and the B1 commit.

On the running service, the write that drops expired retired marks could throw out of retiredStore() into the retired check of POST /api/push/subscribe. It is now caught and logged like the load path's: the expired marks stay dropped in memory and leave the disk with the next write that succeeds.
Pushed 751694f for the CodeRabbit thread (resolved): the retired list's expiry rewrite can no longer fail a subscribe, with a test. check fast on it: everything green except one known slot-admission flake in scripts/check.test.ts (not touched here; 66/66 when run alone). Pre-existing deliver() write order filed as #2013.
Merge pass: the Astra gate approved 751694f. B1 is fixed (6330812), and the follow-up commit only stops a failed write of the expired entries from failing a subscribe. Retiring an endpoint and the retired mark stay enforced through an unsubscribe and a restart, even when the write fails. As Dori decided for the maintainer, what happens after the 30-day expiry (the same on main) and the fragment normalisation go to follow-up #2012. This PR merges on its own once its CI is green and its turn comes in the queue.
Merge pass review report. Overall: PASSED on the reported blocker. This PR touches device security and the HTTP contract (push status and health for each device). It was reviewed by an Astra gate (omo-native-gate-reviewer; gpt-6-astra, falling back to claude-opus-5-5). The gate rejected f575427 on B1 and confirmed 6330812 fixes B1. It also approved the follow-up commit 751694f.
What it does: Phone & devices shows whether each device actually receives push notifications. Each delivery is recorded, and a repair is offered when it fails (#1039).
B1 (HIGH, f575427), fixed in 6330812: a watch-only device could take over another device's retired push endpoint by sending DELETE and then POST.
Fix: the retired mark now survives an unsubscribe.
Contract test:push-health.contract.test.ts:173 fails on the parent (expected 410, got 204) and passes on 6330812.
Behaviour at the new head:
A watch-only device, or any device other than the owner, gets 410 after an unsubscribe and after a server restart that reloads the files.
The owner can still re-subscribe while its endpoint is live.
Rebase onto #1975 and #1986: commit 1 changed only where it resolves conflicts, keeping #1975's security-summary script and its SecuritySummary import. None of #1986's files differ. Auth, the same-origin checks and the watch-only restrictions are unchanged, apart from the existing exception for /api/push/status. Commits 2-10 are unchanged.
Tests:
131 tests pass across push, the push contract, devices, auth and the client push code.
The HTTP contract tests for health security, token auth and web push pass (27).
751694f: a failed write of the expired entries no longer makes a subscribe fail. Only the write that drops expired marks was made non-fatal. Retiring an endpoint and revoking it still write strictly. With push-retired.json unwritable, a probe showed four things:
Retiring still throws EISDIR, and the mark stays in memory.
A foreign POST still gets 410 through an unsubscribe, a restart, and on day 29.
When the expiry write fails, a live mark next to an expired one is kept.
The new test fails against 6330812's push.ts, which threw EISDIR out of retired(). 60 push tests pass, and typecheck is clean.
Left to follow-up #2012 (Dori's decision on the maintainer's behalf):
Existing gap: once the 30-day retirement mark expires, another device can register that already-dead endpoint. This already happens on main, and this PR doesn't introduce it. The gate reproduced it with a controlled clock. The push service had already marked the endpoint dead with 410, so the practical impact is small.
Fragment variant: a fragment variant (E#…) gets past the retirement check before the mark expires. Pushes to it still get 410, and a watch-only device still can't send a test push (403).
…tice be dismissed (#2145)
Fixes#2127.
## Problem
On a device that cannot make a push subscription, the alerts notice from
#1995 says "This device's push subscription is missing. Turn alerts on
again." and stays there for good:
- `enableNotifications` caught the subscribe error (or got `null` when
the service worker never came up) and returned `false`, so the repair
was recorded as `failed`.
- The look that follows found the same `missing` fault, and
`refreshPushHealth` keeps a result only when no fault is found, so the
`failed` was dropped. The button flickered to "Turning alerts on…" and
back, and nothing said why. Settings' hint also checked `health.problem
=== "missing"` before `failed`.
- The notice could not be dismissed.
Reported on Brave, where `pushManager.subscribe()` rejects until "Use
Google services for push messaging" is on (it is off by default). Before
#1995 this state was silent (alerts stayed tab-only), so it surfaced
with v0.4.19.
## Change
- `enableNotifications` returns a `PushActionResult` instead of a
boolean. A repair that makes no subscription says why: `refused` (the
browser's PushManager or the app's plugin would not make one),
`no-worker` (no error, but the service worker never came up) or
`unregistered` (the PC answered with an error, or was not reached).
`subscribeFailure` maps the error, and a retired endpoint the browser
keeps handing over stays `gone`.
- `refreshPushHealth` keeps such a reason while the fault can still be
repaired (`health.repair`), and drops it once a subscription works. A
test's line is still dropped by a later fault, as before.
- The notice and Settings → Alerts show the reason through one helper,
`repairFailureText`. In Brave it names the setting to turn on. The
repair button stays, since a reload or a changed setting can let it
through.
- The notice gets the same dismiss button as the update notice. The
dismissal is stored per device (`ovis:push-notice-dismissed`) for that
fault. It ends when a different fault appears, when the server answers
for a held subscription with no fault (alerts working), or when alerts
are turned off (or the device locks). A look that saw nothing (no worker
yet, an older server) keeps it. Settings goes on telling the fault.
- New strings are in ja/ko/zh. Changelog fragment
`push-repair-failure-reason.md`.
## Tests
- `src/lib/pushHealth.test.ts`: a failed repair's reason survives the
next look at the same fault and leaves once alerts work. A dismissal
holds through the same fault and through a look that saw nothing, and
ends on another fault, on a working look and on a reset, with its
storage.
- `src/lib/useNotifications.test.ts`: `subscribeFailure` tells a
DOMException or plugin error, an ApiError or network failure, and a
retired endpoint apart.
- `src/components/PushHealthNotice.test.tsx`: the notice shows the
reason (and the Brave setting in Brave), keeps the repair button, and
renders nothing once dismissed.
## Checks run locally (Windows 11)
- Generated types, generated themes, typecheck and build passed in `bun
run check fast`. The run was stopped during unit tests because the
machine ran low on memory, so its unit-test step did not complete here.
- The touched tests pass: `bun test src/lib/pushHealth.test.ts
src/lib/push.test.ts src/lib/useNotifications.test.ts
src/components/PushHealthNotice.test.tsx src/lib/i18n.test.ts
scripts/changelog-fold.test.ts`.
- `src/conventions.test.ts` fails two cases on Windows only ("uses
tokens only" and the icon `?v=` query), because the scan yields
`src\styles.css` paths. This also happens on main and is unrelated to
this PR.
- Not run: `scripts/push-health-demo-regression.ts` (browser). It looks
for the notice's buttons by name, so the added Dismiss button should not
affect it.

Fixes #1039 (part of #1053)
What it does for the user
How
server/push.tskeeps the outcome of the last push to each subscription inpush-delivery.json(owner-only, by endpoint hash, with the owner and a hash of the keys it was recorded for; bounded and expired like the retired list; removed on unsubscribe and device revocation).POST /api/push/status { subscription }(shared/protocol.ts, types inshared/push.ts): answersPushSubscriptionStatusonly to the subscription's owner holding its keys. An unknown subscription, another owner's and one whose keys do not match all get the same404 subscription_not_found, so nothing is enumerated. A watching device may ask about its own subscription, as it may subscribe. The open LAN signs in as no device, so it gets403 status_unavailablebefore any record is read, and its app stays quiet.src/lib/pushHealth.ts: a pure classifier (adapted from Agent of Empires, credited in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md) and one shared state for the notice and Settings. A look waits for the subscription operation under way and drops an answer for a subscription replaced meanwhile, by this page or from outside it (another tab, the service worker's renewal); Settings' test line is tied to the subscription it tested. In the phone app the look reads the app's own subscription for this PC.scripts/push-health-demo-regression.tsjoins the browser lane.Design reference: Agent of Empires'
PushHealthBanner(an app-wide notice for this device's push health); unlike it, the line is not dismissible and repair is offered only where subscribing anew helps.Verification
bun run check faston the PR head: workflow syntax, generated types and themes, typecheck, build, and unit tests (7290 pass, 0 fail, 24 skip).server/push.test.ts,server/push-health.contract.test.ts,src/lib/pushHealth.test.ts,src/lib/push.test.ts: the record, the route's owner and key proof (an unknown, a foreign and a key-mismatched subscription get one identical 404; the open LAN a 403status_unavailablebefore any lookup), revocation and unsubscribe, a record write that fails, expired and malformed records, and every race in the client state (stale answers, a reset during an action, a replacement from another tab, a test's line and the subscription it tested, the phone app's subscription). Each fix in this branch was mutation-checked: removing it fails its test.scripts/push-health-demo-regression.ts(new, in the browser lane) on the demo build with a stand-in PushManager, at 390 and 1440, light and dark, and Korean at 390: a subscription its push service retired shows one notice over the pane and the same line in Settings; the repair refuses the retired endpoint, subscribes anew, sends the confirmation push and the notice leaves; a refusal shows an Alerts button and Send test clears it; key mismatch, missing, transient, denied, unsupported, offline, a look still under way and a watching device's refused test. A forced retirement on load is the issue's done-when, and it passes in every combination (97 captures).scripts/settings-pages-demo-regression.ts: every Settings page fits a 390 and a 320 phone in all four languages, and Back steps out cleanly.scripts/ui-contexts-regression.ts(the real server and an isolated test herdr session):PASS Settings push test: sent, stale/local missing subscription, recovery, failure, retired notice shared with Settings and cleared by its repair, off, mobile layout.Review
This changes an authenticated HTTP contract (
POST /api/push/status), so it needs a real review. Reviews run before this push, each finding verified and fixed with a test that fails without the fix:omo-native-code-reviewer: one HIGH (an open-LAN sign-in got a permanent "missing" notice whose repair could not help), fixed; then APPROVE.gpt-6-astra): four MEDIUMs (a delivery-record write failure skipped retirement; unrepresentable stored times threw; a 5xx cleared a showing notice; a test's line claimed for a replacement subscription), fixed; round 2 APPROVE.gpt-6.1-sol, xhigh): seven MEDIUMs over three rounds. Four were the Astra ones. The others were: expired records left on disk after a revocation; a permission taken back in the phone's Settings leaving a repair notice standing; a test that found no subscription having its line claimed by a new one; a refused key the phone app cannot read getting no repair. All fixed; round 3 APPROVE.The reviewers' sandboxes could not run the server suites (listener and preload errors there), so their verdicts on those parts come from reading; every suite ran here.
Notes
DELETE /api/push/subscribe(an explicit goodbye) drops the endpoint's delivery record but keeps its Alerts: "Turn alerts on again" registers the same push endpoint the push service already retired #1038 retired mark: that route proves neither owner nor keys, and clearing the mark there would let anyone register a retired endpoint again with keys of their own (the merge pass's Astra gate found this; a contract test now covers it). The mark goes with its time to live or its owner's revocation.
